Jeremy Pruitt has hired a pair of defensive assistants. In defensive line, he’s chosen coach Jimmy Brumbaugh, and for the outside linebackers, coach Shelton Felton, “The Athletic”'s Bruce Feldman first reported Monday afternoon.
Brumbaugh replaces Tracy Rocker, who departed Knoxville to go to South Carolina Monday after spending two years at Tennessee.
Rocker's unit made great strides in his two years in Knoxville, but important in-state recruiting misses the past two seasons highlighted important recruiting issues.
Brumbaugh comes to Knoxville after spending last season on Mel Tucker's inaugural staff at Colorado serving as co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach.
Prior to his stint at Colorado, Brumbaugh coached defensive line at Kentucky where he helped develop All-SEC star and first round pick Josh Allen.
Felton replaces Chris Rumph, who left Tennessee for the Houston Texans after a two years in Knoxville.
Shelton Felton returns to Knoxville after spending last season as the the outside linebackers coach at Akron. Before that, Felton served as a quality control assistant at Tennessee, linebackers coach at Tennessee-Chattanooga and a high school coach in Georgia.
