The Lady Vol rowing team competed successfully in the Head of the Ohio on Oct. 7, despite the fact that the event was cut short due to high prevailing winds. The regatta was halfway into completion when officials canceled the rest of the event due to steady winds from the west that were creating gusts as high 20 mph.

The Lady Vols competed in three of the four races they were entered in along the 2.8-mile course before the weather forced the end of the event. In the Club 4+ race, the Orange and White team of Shannon McMahon, Lauren Kueck, Grace Harrington, Joyce Kranzke and Kristen Logan were victorious with a time of 18:25.60. Behind them was a team from Michigan State that clocked in at 18:29.30. Another Lady Vol team took third with a time of 18:34.30. The crew for that shell was Erika Twedt, Kelly Kraiss, Kay Logan, Ashley Smith and Marie Hanscom. In fourth place was the other Big Orange team of Lizzie Brown, Kacey Montgomery, Ginny Bradley, Tammy Horton and Erin Moore who recorded a time of 18:41.80. The team also raced in the Youth 4 and Open 8 but results are currently unavailable. The Club 8 race was the only casualty on the day.

Head Coach Lisa Glenn will now prepare her team for the Head of Lake Hartwell and Head of the Tennessee events in late October.
