The Tennessee men’s tennis team opened the Vols’ fall season at the M15 Champaign Futures Tournament in Champaign, Illinois on Sunday.
Four players represented Tennessee at the event, including Pat Harper, Giles Hussey, Martim Prata and Adam Walton.
After a strong showing in the opening round,where he defeated Illinois’ Lucas Horve 6-3, 6-0, Walton used the two-set win to advance to the second round where he will join fellow teammate Martim Prata on Monday.
Prata earned a first-round bye as the fourth seed in the tournament and will face off against Joseph Rotheram of UC Santa Barbara.
As for Walton, the Australian native is set to take on Stanford’s Neel Rajesh in the second round.Rajesh also earned a first-round bye as the No. 3-seed in the tournament.
The tournament was hosted by the University of Illinois and featured a qualifying draw as well as singles and doubles.
In addition to the four players from Tennessee, 197 players from over 25 countries are competing in the event.
The tournament is scheduled to run through Sunday, Sept. 15 in Champaign.
