Head coach Alison Ojeda during the match against Air Force at Goodfriend Tennis Center on January 21, 2017.

Led by Johanna Silva, the Lady Vols (2-0) ended their time at the Michigan Invitational with a pair of wins and are heading back to Knoxville on a high note going into the ITA Kick Off next week.

Silva took home a three-set win 6-7, 7-3, 1-0 (9) against Ohio State's Irinia Cantos. Silva now holds a season-long, five-match winning streak for the month.

"We are leaving this weekend having learned a lot about our program," head coach Alison Ojeda said. "We are a feisty team who wants to win and is willing to do what it takes to be successful. Additionally, I'm very impressed with our freshmen. They have jumped right into competition and are proving that they can compete at a very high level.“

Freshman Carly Briggs bested Ohio State’s Isabelle Boulais in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, improving Briggs to 2-1 in Ann Arbor, and 4-1 on her opening season.

"When we head back home, we will practice a few specific skills that will help us get ready for another tough weekend of competition in Kansas," Ojeda said.

Tennessee will travel to Lawrence, Kansas next weekend for the ITA Kick Off. They will face Kansas on Friday, Jan. 24.
