The Tennessee women’s soccer team continues to make history.

Less than a year after reaching their first NCAA Tournament Final Four and earning their highest winning percentage in school history, the Vols earned their highest-ever ranking in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll, coming in at No. 10 overall.

The poll was officially released on Tuesday.

Heading into the 2019 season, Tennessee is currently the highest ranked SEC team, with No. 12 Texas A&M, No. 15 South Carolina, No. 17 Vanderbilt and No. 24 LSU coming in behind them. Conference foes Florida, Arkansas, Ole Miss and Auburn also received votes.

The Vols are set to return four All-SEC players from their 2018 squad, including senior midfielder Katie Cousins and senior defender Maya Neal. Both players were also named to the MAC Hermann Trophy preseason watch list. The trophy is collegiate soccer’s highest individual award.

Despite losing key players from last year’s team, head coach Brian Pensky was able to land the No. 6 recruiting class in the country last cycle, which includes 15 players.

The Vols kickoff an exhibition match versus Loyola-Maryland on Aug. 15 before opening their regular season slate versus Fordham at Regal Soccer Stadium on Aug. 22.
