Tennessee's first staff change of the offseason didn't take long as The Athletic's Bruce Feldman is reporting that running back's coach David Johnson is leaving Tennessee for Florida State.
This afternoon Volquest.com's Austin Price reported that Johnson had received. new contract offer from Tennessee and was mulling over his options.
Johnson joined Tennessee's staff in 2018 as Jeremy Pruitt's first coaching staff. After the addition of Tee Martin to the coaching staff this offseason Johnson moved to running back's coach.
Prior to his tenure in Knoxville, Johnson served as the receiver coach at Memphis University under new Florida State head coach Mike Norvell.
Johnson was critical in Tennessee planting a flag in Memphis in recruiting. Johnson served as the lead recruiter for crucial 2020 signees Omari Thomas, Bryson Eason and Martavius French.
Tennessee could go a number of directions with its new opening, but former Tennessee running back and Texas A&M running back coach Jay Graham as well as off field coach Joe Osovet could be leading candidates.
