With five SEC series left in the season, the Tennessee baseball team sits in a tie with South Carolina atop the SEC East.

Three wins in Lexington, Ky., this weekend against a struggling Kentucky team would go a long way in earning the Volunteers that top spot at the SEC Tournament, which is just over a month away.

Tennessee (20-14, 7-8 SEC) meets the Wildcats (14-20, 2-12) at 6 p.m. on Friday, 7 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.

The Diamond Vols took care of East Tennessee State in Johnson City on Tuesday night, 8-6. The game was tied 5-5 until Tennessee scored three runs in the seventh inning, starting with a leadoff home run from Alex Suarez - his first of the season.

Johnson City native Brandon Crowe picked up the win on the mound against ETSU with 6 1/3 innings of solid, three-hit relief.

Tennessee hosted UNC Asheville on Wednesday night, but results were unavailable at press time.

Four Lady Vols off to Mt. SAC relays

Four members of the Lady Vol track and field team will travel to Walnut, Calif., this weekend to run in the Mt. SAC Relays. The meet begins today and runs through Sunday.

Sharon Dickie (5000-meter), Brooke Novak (1500m), Nicole Cook (800m) and Dee Dee Trotter (100m, 200m) will all get their final tuneups before the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia next weekend.

UT coach J.J. Clark will probably send around 15 athletes to Pennsylvania.

Oak Ridge to host S.I.R.A Regatta

Coming off a 4-for-4 performance at the G.W. Crew Classic in Washington, D.C., the Lady Vol rowing team travels to Oak Ridge on Friday and Saturday to participate in the S.I.R.A. Regatta at Melton Hill Lake.

The Lady Vols won all four of their races in the nation's capital last weekend by more than 10 seconds.

The SEC Championship Invitational will be in Knoxville on April 26 at 10 a.m.
