The Student Union food court, containing restaurants like Chick-fil-A and Salad Creations, was evacuated around noon on Wednesday.
According to workers in the court, QDOBA, the popular Mexican-style cuisine restaurant, accidentally set off the fire alarm causing the area to be evacuated and the fire department to be called.
The situation did not last long; students were allowed back in the food court within minutes.
Public Information Officer for the UT Police Department, Lola Alapo, said in a statement to the Daily Beacon that the situation was a false alarm.
“Any time a fire alarm goes off, we evacuate the building as a precaution," Alapo said. "This was a false fire alarm, though."
