The UT Police Department received a report Wednesday of a sexual assault near campus, according to an email from the UT Clery Compliance Coordinator.
The assault occurred on Lake Avenue on the north side of campus on Monday night, August 26. A female UT student reported the incident to a non-law enforcement campus authority and declined to report to the police department or the university.
In the email, the UT Clery Compliance Coordinator said, “Every sexual assault incident is different for each individual, and the university supports and respects the decisions made by the student involved on how they wish to proceed.”
The UT Clery Compliance Coordinator provided safety information in the email, including the UTPD phone number, the link to download the LiveSafe app and the importance of reporting crimes, especially if you are a victim.
Sexual assault survivors can report to UTPD, the Sexual Assault Response Team, the Office of Equity and Diversity, among others. A list of resources and contacts can be found at titleix.utk.edu.
